Glenn A. Johnson, age 95, of Plano, IL passed away on Monday, September 11, 2017 peacefully at his home. He was born on January 11, 1922 one of 13 children of Oliver and Emma (Brown) Johnson.
Glenn was employed by Federal Huber Co. in Plano, IL for many years until his retirement. He served his country proudly enlisting in the United States Navy, serving 4 years as a pharmacist’s mate stationed in the Pacific Theater during WWII. After returning from the war he was united in marriage to the former Carol Erickson on November 1, 1947 and were celebrating 70 years of marriage. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and uncle who will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
Glenn was a member of the Aurora Bowling Association and was inducted to the Aurora Bowler’s Hall of Fame as one of the top bowlers in the area. He was an avid golfer and taught and helped many, including his family, learn and love the sport. Love of hunting and fishing were not only a hobby but a necessity during his childhood years. Glenn was an amazing, gifted musician playing guitar from childhood. He, along with his wife Carol, played at many a gathering and he formed a little band called the “Sentimental Journeymen”. They both also enjoyed a card game whenever they could. Glenn was a member of the Plano American Legion Post #395, the Montgomery VFW Post 7452, and the Sandwich Moose Lodge No. 1016.
He is survived by his loving wife, Carol Johnson of Plano, IL; his daughter, Patsy (Doug) Harris of Plano, IL; his granddaughters, Jackie (Ken) Huhn of Oswego, IL and Jenn Harris of Brooklyn, NY; his great granddaughters, Maggie and Lily Huhn; his sister, Mickey Johnson Cass of Millington, IL; his sister-in-law, JaVerna Johnson of Joliet, IL; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Oliver and Emma Johnson; his brothers, Harvey, Herman, William “Bud”, LeRoy, Jim, and Glenn K. Johnson in infancy; his sisters, Alice Johnson, Gertrude Foote, Gladys Vickery, Beulah Blue, and Audrey Johnson.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, September 15, 2017 at the Larson-Nelson Funeral Home, 1010 W. South St., Plano, IL with Deacon Doug Wells officiating. Interment will follow in St. John’s the Baptist Catholic Cemetery in Somonauk, IL.
Friends may visit from 4:00 until 8:00 PM on Thursday, September 14, 2017 at the Larson-Nelson Funeral Home in Plano, IL.
